Mucking about in the River

Well, here we are again.  Another good time in the Splash.  I can do this for an hour or more, no problem.
I'm here, I'm waiting ... where are you all ...

Mum doesn't mind, she sits on the log bench and rests her ankle.  I like it because sooner or later all the gang arrives to play ... and I meet new friends just about every time.  Every dog around finds its way down to the Splash.  The water is crystal clear and the bottom is sandy with little stones, so dogs who have been in other parts of the river and got their paws muddy on the way out up the bank, are brought here to wash off.

hello. nice to meet you.  gosh your eyes are blue.

Hello, haven't seen you before.  Oh, you're just back from your holidays.

Gosh you're eyes are blue.  Just like the sky. .. oh I see, that is why they named you Sky - stands to reason I suppose.  You are the first dog I have met with eyes so blue.  Right, its because you are a Husky, okay, so Husky's have blue eyes, I didn't know that.

One of the Mum's throws half a ball into the splash and everyone dashes in after it.  ...  but it sinks to the bottom and the rest give up when they dont find I floating .....

not me ....

I've found it, its here.  Maybe I can dig it up ....

Not giving up ....I know I can get it ... but dont want to put my nose under to grab it ...

but I will if I have to ... because its not going to beat me .. I'm a Pointer, I dont give up ... EVER!

..and I got it!  ... but once I got it out of the water I didn't want it any more because something much better to play with had turned up ...

                         Rosie  !!

Rosie is a Spaniel.  Short legs but goes like a rocket .. and runs on Duracell batteries .

Another thing about Spaniels - they have wonderful noses.  They also like to get those noses into everything ....

Oooooooh ..... what have you found Rosie??

Move over, I want to smell too!  Rosie is a good mate, she doesn't mind me sharing her smells!

Every now and again something out of the ordinary turns up ....

Yeaaah, Mum, I've found a Yeti!

The Heavyweights join in.

Say hello to a couple of friends, Echo and Whisper.

They are Siberian Mastiffs.  Big and very hairy.  Echo is the largest because Whisper is just a pup.  Whisper will run and play, but Echo is too busy pushing my Mum about to get a fuss.

When they are wet they are VERY wet.

This is us all meeting up.  I always know who is good for a fuss ... and who is the best bet for mugging. Echo and Whisper have only recently joined the gang, although they have been coming over here for ages.

The other dogs, well their Mum's really, were a bit worried about them becaue they are so big and Whisper is liable to jump all over them.  Mum' s are liable to be nervous, you know.

But I soon showed them all that both Echo and Whisper are great, cos I play with them and introduced them to the rest of the squad. They will be part of the gang now that all the Mum's know them better.

This is me having a quiet word with the lads.

Come on, gang, follow me.  I know who has a good treats bag and is most likely to be good for a handout or six ...

Follow the Leader .... with me in front, of course.

.... and it worked, of course, it worked ...who could resist my big amber eyes and pitiful expression .... and once the bag was opened the rest of the lads cashed in ....

As a newcomer, and still a pup, Whisper has a lot to learn.  I am a good teacher, and up to all the tricks.

... one thing else, though, Whisper is always good for a girl to girl gossip .....

Family fun.

Its a lovely sunny morning with an added bonus - its windy.  I love the wind, it flaps my ears and its exciting.  Wind brings smells and sets me off racing in all directions trying to track their sources.  Dad says I have the wind up my tail, but that's not true, I have the wind up my nose!

When we got over the meadows we made our way to the Splash as normal - its where I meet old friends, and make new ones.

Meet Ruger and his family.  They have been here some time.  Ruger is soaking wet from nose to tail and his family children are making sand-and-mud castles at the waterside.

Ruger is just one overgrown puppy and loves to play chase.  I'm game for that, especially if it means in and out of the water.  Mind out kids, fast wet dogs coming through.
..... slow wet kids left behind!

See the littlest kid, filling his bucket with water, next minute he toddles up and empties his bucket all over me!!

Score one each.  I wasn't fussed through, I was already wet, and besides I like being wet on a nice day.

New game - follow the leader.  This is great, this is different.  I like kids to play with, they are fun.

Mum is calling to go home.  Hang on, I want to bring my new stick ........
